Write about a conversation that changed you.

Prompt Response: A conversation that changed me was with my parents because they are the people who are with you through the early stages of your life. The conversation changed me by influencing the way I am and what I did, which had a negative effect as I was more rebellious and angst when in the early years of my teenage years around 14.  Summary: I was not here in class today as the doctor had told me to rest at home. Reflection: Today I learned that a person's "will" is not a drive or motivation, but an instinct/key to obtain our own survival in this world to sustain living in the "real"/adult world. This impacted me by making me think over my future life of what I'd do after college about becoming a pilot, which made me feel like I had a long way to go to better my short comings, or the bad things that influence me and take away my time such as social media. In the future I will use this to reflect back for a moment and remind myself why I push forward...

Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt Response: Something that I had believed as a child is that there were monsters lurking in the dark. So when I was a child I would normally hide under the sheets against these "monsters". But now that I am grown now I realize no such thing exists. Summary: I was not here in class today. Reflection: I can't really say I learned anything today except that maybe a person can be a better person by changing the things that influence them such as the things surrounding them. This impacted me by making me feel a bit remorseful over the fact that as humans we tend to make mistakes, but it's not good to keep repeating those mistakes; otherwise nothing really changes. In the future I will use this to reflect on myself and keep pushing forward for the me of today so I don't leave the me of tomorrow dead.

How does Rose’s role as a wife and mother reflect societal expectations of women, particularly African American women, in the 1950s, and how does her sense of duty impact her relationship with Troy?

Prompt Response: Rose's role as a wife and mother reflect societal expectations, particularly African American in the 1950's by showing the expectations of her just being at home instead of making money and doing the chores around the house such as the hanging of the clothes outside in the sun to dry; As well as her role as an African American being less than those that are White in color such as being treated worse or the expectations are higher in a negative light. (I can't provide insight or evidence as I had just participated or got back into class today). Her sense of duty affects her relationship with Troy by making her feel bad about herself whenever she makes her husband Troy unhappy or mad despite the way he is, as her expectations of a wife weigh on her most likely everyday of not doing enough.  Summary: Today we read over Fences Act 1, Scene 2; It was mainly about how Gabriel was injured and is now mentally challenged while at the beginning of the Act we see tha...

Troy’s complaint about the unfair job system shows his frustration with racial discrimination. How did this conversation make you think about fairness and opportunity in society today? If you were in Troy’s position, what would you do?

Prompt Response: The conversation about troy's complaint over the unfair job system made me think about our society's fairness and opportunity in a similar light as while racism has decreased over the years it still exists and the opportunity's are just as low with many people that just get into that specific career field leaving not as much opportunity for those that are poor or less experienced. If I were in troy's position I would either keep trying for at least one job that gave me a decent income to where I can build my life regardless of the treatment I get or give my son up for adoption for his sake. Summary: I wasn't here in class today but I believed we watched a short film and answered some discussion questions over it. Reflection: Today I learned that troy's complaints and problems about society on jobs can be seen as how we often cultural suppress those we see in another color because of the stereotypes around those type of people being seen as bad ...

Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

Prompt Response: A truth I was afraid to accept was that things could get better if you tried, which at first I was always clinging onto self pity. Over the course of time, I realized that sometimes just one small action can make a difference whether the impact on you was big or small. Summary: I was not here in class, but I'm guessing you either gave out paper work or a (project - least likely).  Reflection: Today I did not learn anything since I was not here in class today for a fractured arm I'm trying to heal. This impacted me by making me feel a tingle of guilt because I thought that karma was getting to get me for whatever I did wrong last week. In the future I will use this experience to do more rights rather than wrongs for a better outcome.

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

Prompt Response: A time where I felt I was judged unfairly was online when I was playing a shooter game and only because I was at the bottom compared to my team based off one game, they assumed I was trash. So on forth that was a time where I felt I was judged unfairly only because of an off day. Summary: Today in class we took a CommonLit Assessment.  Reflection: Today I learned that social situations such as isolation can cause a person or group of people to have them do bad things to others that they don't see as "Normal". This impacted me by making me feel curious since everyday social topic in school always go over bullying and it's impact to the victim, the bully, and the bystanders; Which made me wonder on how far would a person go to hurt another based on a social situation. In the future I will use this in situations where I notice others feeling isolated and help them.

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

Prompt Response: I think that if I was learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the first time, something I would be curious about it is the foods, traditions, and celebrations in particular because in my personal opinion Mexican foods are one of the most unique variety of food up there even if I think that Indian food has more of a variety, overall I think I would be curious on how the food taste compared to American and Indian heritage/culture. In terms of traditions and celebrations I think that I would be curious about the holidays they celebrate such as parades or parties they do on certain days, or the religion they served being any different from America or anything  unique they do compared to other heritage's.  Summary: Today in class we took a CommonLit Assessment, and watched a short film about a Mexican mother and son immigrant duo. After watching the short film we answered 5 questions about the short film.  Reflection: Today I learned that Mexican imm...

After hearing your classmates’ storymap presentations, choose one classmate’s story that stood out to you. Write about what you liked or learned from their journey and explain why it was meaningful to you.

Prompt Response: One classmate that stood out to me was Amelia. The reason why her story map stood out to me was because I could often share similar experiences to her brother or being similar to him. I learned from Amelia's journey that she is what I presume to be an emotionally intelligent person being able to react to certain circumstances logically. I feel like it's meaningful to me because I had always stereotyped people based on how they present themselves, but now that I got to know her a bit more it makes me wonder if my sister will end up similar to her.  Summary: Today we continued presenting our story maps, and listening to our classmates story map to get to know about their past/life.  Reflection: Today I learned that while some people fit inside their stereotypes, most people don't as they live a somewhat similar life to their culture and the rest is up to them how they live it. This impacted me by making me feel like I had an epiphany on the fact that while...

Reflect on a time when you discovered a new perspective that completely changed how you viewed a person, group, or place. How did your previous “single story” shape your thoughts or actions?

Prompt Response: Before when my mom had always tried to force me to read a certain genre of books such as those with a lot of words for my age, which shaped my perspective to be of that I didn't like the writing or stories that the people of America made and always defined the books as boring. After that I hadn't read a single book except comic books since they were simplistic and the visual image of having the characters in your head made it all the more better from just reading words and trying to imagine it. Although at some point of time I came back to reading after wanting to continue a comic or manga but there were no more chapters, so on I went and found the novel of it and started to get into reading again and I can proudly say that I like reading now.  Summary: Today in class we all worked on an assignment in Common lit. As well as any missing work we might have.  Reflection: Today I learned that the stories we read can contribute to how we think or how we see t...

Recall a specific incident when someone’s words offended you. Describe what was said, how it made you feel, and what actions you took in response. Reflect on whether your response helped resolve the situation or changed how you think about communication.

Prompt Response: When someone called me an idiot, as they said "Why is someone like you part of our group, your the most idiotic and unhelpful person I met". It made my self-esteem lower by a whole bunch of points and sooner or later I stopped trying in my classes to what defined that title for me as what I thought was idiotic;what an idiot was and made me interact with others less.  Summary: Today in class we went over a short essay "Incident" by Countee Cullen, and analyzed the poem; As well as discussing what the poem was about and the two themes of it. Before all that, at the beginning of class we wrote three terms that were most offensive and why it offended us, for me it was "Mistake", "Failure", and "Idiot".  Reflection: Today I learned that an experience can define us in many ways carrying a grudge in our heads and how it can affect future outcomes. This impacted me by influencing many thoughts on what grudges I hold such as be...

It’s Homecoming Week! 🎉 What do you love most about being part of the Lakeside community? How do you show off your school spirit? What is your favorite Homecoming tradition or event?

Prompt Response: The thing I love most about the Lakeside Community is the kindness of the people accepting different races other than themselves as friends as well as the diverse community since you meet all sorts of people with different backstory's to them. I don't show off my school spirit as I'm not really a part of the community but more of an outcast/side character in my opinion. My favorite Homecoming tradition/event is the pep rallies where we celebrate and hype up the big game in the gym/court.  Summary: Today in the short class period a few people presented their Story Map in class, which was really well thought and made.  Reflection: Today I learned that cultural aspects of our identity can also be influenced from the activities we do, such as for girls being forced or go to doing something they don't want to do later. This impacted me by making me feel a bit curious about what moments I had when I was forced to do something I didn't like to do, which w...

Consider Edna Pontellier’s decision to pursue love and desire beyond her marriage in The Awakening. To what extent do you think the pressures of gender role expectations excuse, or fail to excuse, her affair with another man?

Prompt Response: To a huge extent the pressures of gender roles and expectations fail to excuse her affair with another man because they don't accept cheating as well as the fact that she already has a family with the arranged marriage with another guy, the expectation that a women sticks to one guy alone by her peers and family makes it a huge extent because of the consequences that come along with it disappointing many others and others denying her, making the pressures of gender roles and expectations failing to excuse her actions or affair with another man.  Summary: Today in class we submitted the Story Map Assignment. Then we focused on a short essay on "I Don't Want a Wife", and answered 6 questions on it similar to yesterday where we had the discussion questions for "Why I want a Wife". After that we did a quiz that was 10 questions, mainly with multiple choice and a few free response questions on a short story called "The Awakening".  Ref...

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

Prompt Response: I think that class discussions is a learning method I enjoy most since it gets me engaged and makes me have to recall the knowledge from my head and make me adapt to my mistakes by correcting them in case the information in my head is wrong.  Summary: In class we went over last night's homework on "Why I want a husband" listing off 15 reasons on the social norms on the gender of a male on what you want out of them in a marriage. After that we discussed the 10 discussion questions on the back about the essay "Why I want a Wife" and finished class.  Reflection: I learned in class today that social expectations can be headed towards the right direction in case it is brought up in a group discussion to further implement the right social norms for the people which can help us live in a peaceful society. This impacted me by making me feel perplexed over the fact that such things exists because normally around the internet there are a lot of informatio...

Reflect on a specific gender expectation imposed by your culture that has been the most challenging to navigate. In 2-3 sentences, describe one clear example of this expectation and explain why it has been difficult for you. Ensure your response is concise, vivid, and focused on personal experience.

One specific gender expectation that was imposed by my culture that had been the most challenging to navigate throughout my life was having to be successful each and every time I had to pursue or do something, a belief that is most related to my family's past of being all very smart and successful people who managed to make themselves into something important. The more I went throughout my life I had felt a shame to be called a son or my family, after all I had failed continuously multiple times, it was only until I went into my 12th grade year did I realize that maybe failure isn't all that bad and if I had just gotten up one more time for one more day that it could make a huge difference as a surge of hope filled me each and every time as I fell back down from the skies only having a glimpse of what I could be.  Summary: Today in class we read the essay "I Want A Wife" by Judy Brady, and discussed cultural aspects of the poem regarding gender restrictions by their ...

You are working on your storymap which is reflection on your past. Thinking about your future, as you graduate high school, what role does the Atlanta metro area play in your life? Do you plan to stay or move away? Explain your reasoning.

Prompt Response: The role of Atlanta metro serves in my future as a place I won't be thinking about but as a place where I won't ever go back too if I succeed in this life. I plan to move away from this place and Georgia overall as I don't like it very much as it's a reflection of my past and who I am as a person only reminding of the bad things that went throughout my life.  Summary: Today in class we started working on our storyboard map for our past and locations that made up of our cultural identity just like on how Amy Tan talked about her cultural identity in the short story "Two Kinds".  Reflection: Today I learned in class that my past is not worth talking about much in terms of cultural identity. This impacted me by making me reflect on the idea that someone else has more diversity and made me questioned on "why care about cultural identity as a whole?", which my answer to that is that it's a reflection of us from the past, the present,...

Think about a moment when you challenged your parent(s)’ rules or expectations. How did you feel, and what was the outcome?

Prompt Response: I felt like I was filled with shame that I did so because later on in my life I realized that they were actually right. But in the moment I felt pretty frustrated and angry with the way that my mom used to always compare me with other people whether it be people in the same age group as me or younger. The outcome was that I eventually became lazy and just stopped trying not because I felt like it, but because all hope I had was lost; At some point I wondered why bother to even try at all? So I stopped and gave up on my own life when I was younger.  Summary: Today in class we read over the short story "Two Kinds" by Amy Tan and discussed the elements of the short story to her cultural identity. Afterwards our teacher showed us the assignment that we were going to work on Friday.  Reflection: Today I learned that a parents expectations have an influence on your cultural identity as well rather than your traditional values that you may have. This impacted m...

You’ve been in Multicultural Literature for about 4.5 weeks. How has the class been going for you so far?

Prompt Response: Lately I think that after 4.5 weeks, I think that keeping consistency is very difficult. Which is proving to show results as of my grades, but honestly at some point I realized that I also have to balance my own well being with my school life as well as my life in general. As I do not want to burn out or push myself beyond difficulty to "fall off" and plummet into a downward spiral as I did in the past.  Summary: Today in class we went over the short poem/story "Two kinds" by Amy Tan, about her identity and how she was (cultural mask). After that we went over the vocabulary words in the short story/poem in "Two kinds" and started on an activity stating the symbolic elements, actions, and context that relates to the image for the 15 vocabulary words from the short story/poem.  Reflection: I learned in class today that the vocabulary word "Stricken" means seriously affected by an undesirable condition or unpleasant feeling. This i...
