Consider Edna Pontellier’s decision to pursue love and desire beyond her marriage in The Awakening. To what extent do you think the pressures of gender role expectations excuse, or fail to excuse, her affair with another man?

Prompt Response: To a huge extent the pressures of gender roles and expectations fail to excuse her affair with another man because they don't accept cheating as well as the fact that she already has a family with the arranged marriage with another guy, the expectation that a women sticks to one guy alone by her peers and family makes it a huge extent because of the consequences that come along with it disappointing many others and others denying her, making the pressures of gender roles and expectations failing to excuse her actions or affair with another man.

Summary: Today in class we submitted the Story Map Assignment. Then we focused on a short essay on "I Don't Want a Wife", and answered 6 questions on it similar to yesterday where we had the discussion questions for "Why I want a Wife". After that we did a quiz that was 10 questions, mainly with multiple choice and a few free response questions on a short story called "The Awakening".

Reflection: Today I learned in class that a woman can break social expectations by doing things for herself such as pursue her own dreams whether it be in love or career wise. This impacted me by making me curious about if people weren't tied down to their moral value, just how good would society be with one another in each and every country; Would there be an apocalyptic scenario where it's every person for themselves or would we be able to define a society better than we have today without the chains and what is supposed to expected? In the future I will use this to encourage and let my wife embrace her freedom and move on from her, as I do the same for myself to avoid further conflicts that could have more consequences to them.
