As we approach the end of the course, reflect on the texts, discussions, and concepts explored in Multicultural Literature. What is one significant lesson about culture or identity that has stood out to you? Explain why this lesson is meaningful and analyze how it connects to your own experiences or perspective.

Prompt Response: As we approach the end of the course, after all the things I've experienced. One significant lesson about culture or identity was the Color Purple because when I read it, it showed the empowerment even if life was harsh towards Celie as she learns to find herself once more. It connects to my own experience as I feel torn of my identity through each living moment, a thousand pieces but never one that truly represents that show's who I am or my character. Perhaps that is the beauty of individuality? Either way this course has helped me grow more than who I was before more ways than I one.  Summary: Today in class we watched a short film over 4 kids and their walk to school, before it and during it we answered some questions.  Reflection: Today I learned that despite the regrets and mistakes I made, I have come this far. So it's too late to quit now. This impacted me by making me feel a sense of nostalgia for all the times that it felt despairing and the milli...

How important is education in your life right now? Do you think students around the world value school the same way you do? Explain your reasoning.

Prompt Response: The education in my life is really important right now. I think students around the world value school not exactly the same way I do since they might value school more than me. As to why I think that they value school more than me is because it's more of their lifeline unlike how it is in the U.S. where even if you don't have an education there is a way and a path for you to make it through. The reason why it's still really important to me right now is because without it, I can't really do much with my life.  Summary: Today in class we watched a short film about 4 different kids in different countries walking to school and answered questions.  Reflection: Today I learned that the Argentina kid named Carlito travel's to school on a horse. This impacted me by making me feel surprised because I never imagined a child traveling to school through a horse. In the future I will use this when researching about other cultures and taking this into account.

After viewing your classmates’ presentations, which cultural group did you find most interesting? Explain why. Then, reflect on how this presentation changed or deepened your understanding of that culture.

Prompt Response: The cultural group that I found most interesting was the LGBTQ+ group. The reason being is because it went far from my expectations that it was going to be about particularly about gay guys rather than lesbians because there are more stereotypes on gay guys overall in my opinion. The presentation helped changed/deepened my understanding of the LGBTQ+ group that even though stereotypes in the movies heavily go on one side or the other when it comes down to that one individual in sexuality or the way they behave, overall there are lesbian woman and gay guys that are more complex than what meets the eye and didn't gain their sexuality suddenly.  Summary: Today in class we presented our stereotypical group and listened and watched our peers present their presentation.  Reflection: Today I learned that culture groups stereotypes often tie down to not being able to remain neutral in some, to most cases. This impacted me by making me feel a sense of boredom sin...

Which factor plays a greater role in shaping your future career choice: your genuine interest and passion for the field, or the financial benefits and stability it can provide? In your response, explain which one you prioritize and why, and consider how this decision might impact your long-term happiness, motivation, and overall quality of life.

Prompt Response: Overall, the factor that played a greater role in shaping my future career choice was the financial benefits and stability since I have always faced through the hardships of life without being able to do anything about it. This decision might impact me in the long term for happiness, motivation, and overall quality of life by decreasing all at once. The reason why? It's because sometimes when it comes to being adults, we have to do the things we don't want to often, even if it's more difficult for the benefits. Now I didn't base my career choice just because of that but also because of the genuine interest that I've had for a bit of time until now.  Summary: Today in class we researched more about careers that we would do after high school, in total 5 of them in Atlanta and in another state or place.  Reflection: Today I learned in class that the jobs that seem less likely to have a lot of people in are actually quite interesting and have a good pa...

What is the most exciting thing about graduating high school for you personally? In your response, explain what you are looking forward to most after graduation (college, career, independence, travel, etc.) and why it matters to you.

Prompt Response: The most exciting thing about graduating high school is the fact I don't have to have a rigorous schedule and have to wake up very early for it. But it's also the fact that I can finally become an adult in July having some form of independence, the Independence part matters to me because I don't like to rely on other people otherwise success feel's a bit less valued to me.  Summary: Today in class we watched a TED talk for young people on the question "What do you want to do after high school" and all the things related to it. Afterwards we answered a couple questions about it.  Reflection: Today I learned in class that the path that we didn't think we would take could potentially or most likely become our mainstream path, for example becoming a writer or teacher. This impacted me by making me feel disappointment since I'm young and I don't believe in career's that don't provide a form of stability in your life unless you ...

Clothing is often tied to identity and culture. Describe an outfit or style you like that may not fit what others expect from you. How have people responded, and what does this reveal about stereotypes in society?

Prompt Response: An outfit/style that I like that may not fit what others expect from me is the gothic/emo style of clothing and the way I present it due to my own personality. People might respond to this nowadays positively as it's something new that you don't see everyday that really show's that you're not like others, however if it was back in the early 2000's it might be seen as cringy and weird. This reveals about stereotypes in society that while nowadays their are a lot of positive things about it and seen in a good light, there are others even from back then that may not like the style due to their own experiences and from what they know/see.  Summary: Today in class we watched a short film about a girl having imposed masculine stereotypes on her and answered some questions and then worked on our presentations.  Reflection: Today I learned that stereotypes can tie down to the way we dress ourselves. This impacted me by making me feel knowledgeable in this ...

Think about a film that represents your culture (or a culture you identify with) in a positive and meaningful way. Explain how the film represents the culture and why this portrayal matters. Be sure to include specific examples from the film.

Prompt Response: A film that represents my culture in a positive/meaningful way is " Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara", which shows that it isn't just based on traditions alone and ceremonies and focus on the "modernism" of Indian culture by focusing on the value's of the character within Indian culture. The Film portrays the culture of a modern Indian, this matters because it redefines what the Indian Culture really is and is seen by the outside world of stereotypes on them and others. Some examples in the film of this is Arjun's "Work Life" Reckoning which he tosses his phone into the ocean showing misalignment from the corporate work life/hustler life, Kabir's "Compromised" Arrangement which he got into because he didn't want to dishonor the girl's family, and The Ritual of the "Pact" which they share their brotherhood through one word "Zubaan" meaning 'one's word/promise' signifying this over o...

The short film Born With It shows how stereotypes can shape the way people see others and even how individuals see themselves. Reflect on the main character’s experience and explain how stereotypes impacted his identity and sense of belonging. Then, connect this to a broader idea: how can stereotypes influence the way a culture or group is understood by others? Use specific examples from the film to support your response.

Prompt Response: Stereotypes impacted his identity and sense of belonging by making him feel alone/isolated from others and feel disgusted by himself for simply existing, he saw himself as something bad instead of something good for his color and the way he looked. Stereotypes can influence the way a culture or group is understood by others in a bad way and a narrow minded perspective on the individual or group overall, this is backed up by the film when the Japanese kids saw on how the child looked and thought he had a disease known as "AIDS". Another example is from when all the kids don't want to play with him singling him out as not 'one of them'.  Summary: Today in class we watched a short film on stereotypes on an African Japanese kid and how he gets treated by society.   Reflection: Today I learned that stereotypes can be correlated with diseases just based on color. This impacted me by making me feel quite shocked that people can get treated in such a way...

Cities can also be an important part of a person’s cultural identity, shaping their values, experiences, and way of life. Think of a movie or TV show that changed the way you see a specific city. How was that city and its culture portrayed, and did it present a full picture or a “single story”? Explain how this portrayal could influence how people view those who live there.

Prompt Response: A movie that made me change the way I saw a specific city was when I watched a movie called "Chainsaw Man: The Move- Reze Arc". The way it changed my view of Japan or the city "Tokyo" is that it isn't as advanced as I thought it was and Japan's structure of Tokyo has a simple atmosphere in it too. As it's only focused on the single story rather than the entirety of Tokyo's culture being portrayed only focusing on making it look charming through the rain and focusing on the individual/atmospheric aspect. This Portrayal towards people who live there would feel that this movie does somewhat of a good job but it's like the expectation of the reality of living there.  Summary: Today in class we read over presentation requirements and did some research on what we're choosing.  Reflection: Today I learned that the rural White American stereotype is commonly known as hill-billy's or people that don't know much. This impacted...

Why do you think filmmakers continue to use stereotypes, even when they can be harmful or inaccurate? Explain one reason discussed in class and give your opinion on whether this justifies their use.

Prompt Response: I think that filmmakers continue to use stereotypes even when they can be harmful or inaccurate because it can provide viewer's an entertaining experience even if they don't fully go into creating good characters for the money. One reason that we said in class that stereotypes happen is often what we see them do such as "black people eating fried chicken", which justifies their use of that type of stereotype on black people because usually you do see them eating fried chicken!  Summary: Today in class we read a commonlit article, however I didn't do it because I got exempt from our trip to Kennesaw Mountain.  Reflection: Today I learned during our hike in Kennesaw Mountain that meeting people along the way makes it a unique experience even if you're by yourself most of the time. This impacted me by making me feel a sense of belonging as I wasn't alone while walking. I will use this in the future whenever I go hiking again on a long trail....

Think about the most stereotypical film you have ever seen. This could be a movie that represents a specific culture, race, gender, or group in an oversimplified or unrealistic way. In your response, explain what film you are referring to, what stereotypes were present in the film, and how those stereotypes shaped your understanding of that group at the time

Prompt Response: The film that I have seen was the Color Purple, and the stereotypes that were often present in the film were that woman were typical housewives against their will, meant to be submissive, and be happy about being a mother and produce offspring. Those stereotypes shaped my understanding of that group at the time by helping me understand the cultural roots of African Americans versus how they are treated today/supported.  Summary: Today in class we watched two short films about Asians and African American people, then we read an article and answered some questions about it.  Reflection: Today I learned that typically in the film industry, woman are seen as submissive and sexually appealing. This impacted me by making me feel surprised over that fact because nowadays women are supported for their independence and career aspects so it was quite a shocker for me. In the future I will use this to help me write an article one day about the differences from back...

Hair can be a powerful way people express who they are and where they come from. Think about your own hair; your style, texture, or how you choose to wear it. How does your hair connect to your culture, identity, or personal experiences? Describe a moment when your hair made you feel proud, uncomfortable, or misunderstood, and explain why.

Prompt Response: My hair connects to my culture, identity, and personal experiences by allowing me to show who I am as a person whether messy or chaotic in not doing it and it being a style in itself. When combed or straightened out, it's simple design shows the gratitude towards our parents or ancestors that gave us that hair becoming who we are. A moment where I felt proud of my hair was when my mom did my hair even though it hurt, she always made it look nice for school which gave me the confidence to go outside more and talk with people. Except when I was much younger feeling embarrassed about it because I thought it looked bad).  Summary: Today in class we read a short film titled "Good Hair" which emphasized the discrimination towards race, identity, and the way different people present themselves to their culture.  Reflection: Today I learned in class that hair shows a part of our culture. This impacted me by making me feel surprised by knowing something new and t...

If you could plan the perfect spring break with no limitation, money, time, or responsibilities—what would it look like? Where would you go, who would you bring, and what would you do?

Prompt Response: If I had a perfect spring break with no limitation, money, time, or responsibilities I guess if possible the first thing I would do is go to a really expensive beach resort and have all sorts of wine's and drinks for the first time. The things I would bring would be very minimal because I would just go there with a card that verifies my passage on the ship or beach resort and perhaps a couple food and snacks as I get there along with a towel and sunscreen.  Summary: Today in class we read a short article about why eating bugs isn't as bad as we think it is and answered questions about it.  Reflection: Today I learned that bugs can have tasty and unique flavors to them, that even our ancestors ate bugs before. This impacted me by making me feel that a bit of disgust because as the article said it's common to find a disinterest in eating things that were once moving or contain something in them. In the future I will use this to encourage myself to try eati...

Throughout your classmates' presentations, you were exposed to a variety of cultural foods and traditions. How did these presentations shape your understanding of different cultures? Share your opinion on what stood out most.

Prompt Response: These presentations helped me shape my understanding of different cultures by showcasing different foods I would normally never see or heard of such as in Mexican American culture where while there were common dishes with American cuisine, they have a fair share of eating things like Tres leche's cake where it's like cake but more spongy and sweet.  Summary: Today in class I presented my food Poster along with watching/listening my peers presenting their presentation.  Reflection: Today I learned that despite thinking that all American culture is the same, it is different from where they're from. This impacted me by making me feel curious about what it entails in my culture despite being Indian and seeing a lot of similarities in one another, there will always be small differences. I will use this in the future when I talk about my culture more properly.
