Think about a film that represents your culture (or a culture you identify with) in a positive and meaningful way. Explain how the film represents the culture and why this portrayal matters. Be sure to include specific examples from the film.
Prompt Response: A film that represents my culture in a positive/meaningful way is "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara", which shows that it isn't just based on traditions alone and ceremonies and focus on the "modernism" of Indian culture by focusing on the value's of the character within Indian culture. The Film portrays the culture of a modern Indian, this matters because it redefines what the Indian Culture really is and is seen by the outside world of stereotypes on them and others. Some examples in the film of this is Arjun's "Work Life" Reckoning which he tosses his phone into the ocean showing misalignment from the corporate work life/hustler life, Kabir's "Compromised" Arrangement which he got into because he didn't want to dishonor the girl's family, and The Ritual of the "Pact" which they share their brotherhood through one word "Zubaan" meaning 'one's word/promise' signifying this over one's honor.
Summary: Today in class we worked on our presentations which we started on and discussed with our group members on how we were splitting up the work.
Reflection: Today I learned that rural White American Stereotypes can also involve racism. This impacted me by making me feel suspicious because I wouldn't imagine that they would put that stereotype on them but a part of me also knows that it might come from Southern Americans back in the day emphasizing this stereotype as farmers were often in the south using slavery to do their bidding. In the future I will use this when researching things to add to my group's presentation such as Evidence.
