Think about the most stereotypical film you have ever seen. This could be a movie that represents a specific culture, race, gender, or group in an oversimplified or unrealistic way. In your response, explain what film you are referring to, what stereotypes were present in the film, and how those stereotypes shaped your understanding of that group at the time
Prompt Response: The film that I have seen was the Color Purple, and the stereotypes that were often present in the film were that woman were typical housewives against their will, meant to be submissive, and be happy about being a mother and produce offspring. Those stereotypes shaped my understanding of that group at the time by helping me understand the cultural roots of African Americans versus how they are treated today/supported.
Summary: Today in class we watched two short films about Asians and African American people, then we read an article and answered some questions about it.
Reflection: Today I learned that typically in the film industry, woman are seen as submissive and sexually appealing. This impacted me by making me feel surprised over that fact because nowadays women are supported for their independence and career aspects so it was quite a shocker for me. In the future I will use this to help me write an article one day about the differences from back then to now.
