Hair can be a powerful way people express who they are and where they come from. Think about your own hair; your style, texture, or how you choose to wear it. How does your hair connect to your culture, identity, or personal experiences? Describe a moment when your hair made you feel proud, uncomfortable, or misunderstood, and explain why.

Prompt Response: My hair connects to my culture, identity, and personal experiences by allowing me to show who I am as a person whether messy or chaotic in not doing it and it being a style in itself. When combed or straightened out, it's simple design shows the gratitude towards our parents or ancestors that gave us that hair becoming who we are. A moment where I felt proud of my hair was when my mom did my hair even though it hurt, she always made it look nice for school which gave me the confidence to go outside more and talk with people. Except when I was much younger feeling embarrassed about it because I thought it looked bad).

Summary: Today in class we read a short film titled "Good Hair" which emphasized the discrimination towards race, identity, and the way different people present themselves to their culture.

Reflection: Today I learned in class that hair shows a part of our culture. This impacted me by making me feel surprised by knowing something new and that culture can even tie to the little things such as hair influencing your identity. In the future I will use this when doing my hair or complimenting other's on their hair.
