After viewing your classmates’ presentations, which cultural group did you find most interesting? Explain why. Then, reflect on how this presentation changed or deepened your understanding of that culture.

Prompt Response: The cultural group that I found most interesting was the LGBTQ+ group. The reason being is because it went far from my expectations that it was going to be about particularly about gay guys rather than lesbians because there are more stereotypes on gay guys overall in my opinion. The presentation helped changed/deepened my understanding of the LGBTQ+ group that even though stereotypes in the movies heavily go on one side or the other when it comes down to that one individual in sexuality or the way they behave, overall there are lesbian woman and gay guys that are more complex than what meets the eye and didn't gain their sexuality suddenly.

Summary: Today in class we presented our stereotypical group and listened and watched our peers present their presentation.

Reflection: Today I learned that culture groups stereotypes often tie down to not being able to remain neutral in some, to most cases. This impacted me by making me feel a sense of boredom since even though it takes more effort, I believe that filmmakers and movies could do a better job on it easily and avoid controversies. In the future I will use this when talking about movie stereotypes with other people.

When Celie says, “The God I been praying and writing to is a man. And act just like all the other mens I know,” she expresses disappointment, betrayal, and disillusionment.
