You’ve been in Multicultural Literature for about 4.5 weeks. How has the class been going for you so far?

Prompt Response: Lately I think that after 4.5 weeks, I think that keeping consistency is very difficult. Which is proving to show results as of my grades, but honestly at some point I realized that I also have to balance my own well being with my school life as well as my life in general. As I do not want to burn out or push myself beyond difficulty to "fall off" and plummet into a downward spiral as I did in the past.

Summary: Today in class we went over the short poem/story "Two kinds" by Amy Tan, about her identity and how she was (cultural mask). After that we went over the vocabulary words in the short story/poem in "Two kinds" and started on an activity stating the symbolic elements, actions, and context that relates to the image for the 15 vocabulary words from the short story/poem.

Reflection: I learned in class today that the vocabulary word "Stricken" means seriously affected by an undesirable condition or unpleasant feeling. This impacted me by reminding  me and using experiences from my life that made me feel this way, perhaps when I was facing difficulty or failure I was quite "Stricken" with the outcome. In the future I will use this to further develop my vocabulary to make myself more fluent and improve my comprehension that sets me apart from others.

What have your parents told you about your birth?

Recall a specific incident when someone’s words offended you. Describe what was said, how it made you feel, and what actions you took in response. Reflect on whether your response helped resolve the situation or changed how you think about communication.

What is something that society once accepted but now sees as wrong, or something we still accept today that might be viewed as wrong in the future? Explain your reasoning.
