Write about a time when you did something out of the norm. What was it and how did others react?

Prompt Response: A time where I did something out of the norm was when I didn't go to high school prom because I simply didn't care for the past few years since I was constantly switching schools until last year and now. Other people didn't really react much since I didn't make it known or I didn't glorify it, you could really say I was a "Nobody" but I was fine with that since I already knew that fact in the story of Life. While there are times in our lives where we are our own main characters, there are other times where we have to be fine with being a side character as well; that's my viewpoint on being a Nobody or a Somebody.  Summary: Today in class we discussed and read over the poem "I'm Nobody! Who are you?" by Emily Dickinson, as well as write notes or things we noticed about the poem.  Reflection: Today I learned in class that being a 'Nobody' was fine if you were okay with it. This impacted me by shifting my perspectiv...

“The Island travels with you.” What part of your culture, family, or identity do you feel “travels” with you everywhere you go?

Prompt Response: I feel like the identity of me being Indian "travels" with me everywhere I go because of my skin tone, and sometimes on how I look. Which sometimes I get racial remarks about where I come from when it has nothing to do with me, to which the identity of being Indian can be a good and bad thing since people can often be offensive towards certain races.  Summary: Today in class we continued on cultural identity stereotypes and discussed the poem "The Myth of the Latin Women" made by Judith Ortiz Cofer. After reading the poem we worked on another stereotypes worksheet.  Reflection: Today I learned that Mexican women's life's in terms of stereotypes on how they grow up can have a lot of down sides. This impacted me by debating and looking at those around me and made me wonder "Do they experience this too?", it made my resolve to not be like the weird guys in the poem. In the future I will use this as a reference when interacting with M...

Write about an experience when someone assumed something about you because of a stereotype. What was the situation, and what did you do?

Prompt Response: People always assumed that I was smart either because of the fact that I was Asian or Indian, which isn't true. I find it offensive in a way because not every Indian is smart, there are obviously different individuals who have to work towards their results one way or another, like me. I could never get good at something until I started at it or kept on trying until I finally got it, I was a dullard in a way when it came to my own academics, which is why this year I'm trying to make it up this year by developing a work ethic each day. Anyways when people call me "smart" I just either ignore them or tell myself my pessimistic view point that I wasn't naturally gifted like that. If anything I've seen geniuses out there that can do it at a much faster time than me with a shorter work ethic which is rather disheartening.  Summary: Today in class we first listened to one of the career advisors after high school on one of her presentations that expl...

Describe something you will never fully understand

Prompt Response: Something I will never fully understand is what's a person's reason to live or fall onto a path that seems like it's empty. Is it to enjoy what they achieve? Is it just to make an effort towards a certain outcome to where their story gets passed down from generation to generation? Many people live their lives for countless reasons, some very few, but in the end we all live for one reason and one reason only. We are scared of death.  Summary: Today in class we listened and watched our classmates present their cultural identity poems. As well as me presenting my own cultural identity poem called "The Boy who was Lost" Reflection: Today I learned many things about my classmates cultural identity. This impacted me by showing more elements to how they view their own cultural identity which affected the way I viewed them overall. In the future I might or may not use this to talk to peers or get close to classmates, even though I know that I probably wo...

Write about something that you wish you had more of.

Prompt Response: Something that I wished that we had more of is money because I want to be able to have the luxury of doing the things I want in life. Such as not having to work a job that requires long periods of time, so that I can explore, spend money on the things I want, and be able to help others.  Summary: Today in class we continued to work on our poems about our cultural identity. As well as getting tips here and there on what we could work on about our poem.  Reflection: Today I learned more literacy devices that I can use for my poems such as Anaphora which can mean the repetition of a certain word in a poem. This impacted me by not realizing that I was using different literacy devices in my poem to me knowing about them which influenced me by trying to think of ways I can use Anaphora differently in any future writings I may do. In the future I will use this in order to add more elements to my poem since right now I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to my wri...

What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work.

Prompt Response: The most creative thing that I ever made was a story about a few characters I made up. Although my writing was bad at the time, I was improving till I stopped. The reason why it stands as my best work is because it's one of the things I enjoyed the most and the most creative in terms of an idea of the story being action related mainly compared to a few others. (I like reading novels)  Summary: Today in class we went over a short poem called "The Korean Dream" made by: Sharon Lee. We discussed how this poem relates to cultural identity. Then we got started on doing our poems for the rest of the period.  Reflection: Today in class I learned more aspects about cultural identity such as feeling excluded or not enough. This impacted me by being able to resemble the character in the story to myself. Also being able to put similar elements from the poem into mine for any ideas for my own cultural identity short poem. In the future I plan to use this for any fut...

Everyone has burning questions about life. Mysteries we wonder about but don’t always have clear answers for. Think about your biggest questions about existence, purpose, or the world around you. Write a blog post where you share at least two of your most burning questions about life and explain why these questions matter to you.

Prompt Response: Two of my most burnings about life, my existence or my purpose are "Is everything we do so insignificant that we are only make an impact so small that it's barely noticeable, if so what is one reason why you move forward each and every day?"; Another question I have is "What defines a person's purpose in life? is it their determination/will to do something or is it because of their own circumstances or those  around them? What's the exact definition?". For the first question I started questioning it when I was in my junior year when I was quite the slacker because of my own mental fortitude when facing adversity in life, I started to wonder if I was really changing anything or making an significant impact going day by day whether I did something so little or not. The second question however once I got back on my footing on .moving forward I started to wonder on the path I should take, to which I was unsure of, but that didn't stop m...

Describe a time when you felt completely lost.

Prompt Response: A time where I felt completely lost was when I was going through the motions of life and not being able to do anything about it only facing failure over and over to the point I was debating whether I should give up or not. It was a suffocating and despairing moment of my life to go through something like that which led me towards a downward spiral externally and internally about my problems. As well as another moment where I felt completely lost was moving schools and making new friends, it felt isolating and bad to make new friends since they were pretty much the equivalent of strangers.  Summary: Today in class we presented each of our masks about our cultural identity. As well as go over what makes up for our cultural identity.  Reflection: In class I learned about the things about my peers and what makes up for their cultural identity today. This impacted me by feeling a bit surprised over the things I didn't know about their culture as well as learn...

Analyze how you’ve adapted to the demands of this course over the past week, and evaluate one strength and one challenge you anticipate as we progress, justifying your insights with personal examples.

Prompt Response: I've adapted to the demands of this course over this pass week by putting in more effort on getting my work done and trying to be efficient despite me failing at that, but...one day I will eventually get there maybe not today or tomorrow though. One strength that I have is my determination to do something, that resolve to keep going no matter on how bad it maybe. One challenge that I anticipate is getting started to do something like work or doing something that I need as the hardest thing for me is to get started, but once I do it's easy going from there as I don't quit what I start. For example my determination to keep going on a homework assignment in math despite me having difficulties with it and taking the easy way out, I didn't stop and kept on going until I finally got it done and understood the concept. I've gained a lot of insights over the course of my life, and one of them being that discipline is key as I was a lazy person, at some poi...

Describe how gender roles or patriarchy influence your identity?

Prompt Response: Gender roles influenced my identity by what you should expect out of a "man", by that I mean on how a guy should treat a women right, what life has in store for a man, as well as expectations on what a man should do.  Summary: Today in class we drew a Cultural Indentity mask about ourselves, as well as go over vocabulary words that we will take a test on the 27th of Augest. Reflection: Today I learned many vocabulary words along with my peers. As well as my Cultural identity regarding who I am and what I think the mask I wear is. Learning what I think about my Cultural identity has affected me by asking myself more questions about who I really thought I was and who I was truly. I will use this knowledge in the future when I look back at what I thought my Cultural identity is and compare.

Describe a meaningful family tradition unique to your culture and explain how it mirrors or contrasts with the cultural identity themes of expectations and roles in "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.

Prompt Response: A meaningful family tradition that is unique in my culture is arranged marriages back in India where you don't get to choose the man/woman you're going to marry. This mirrors with the cultural identity themes of expectations and roles in the "Girl" (By: Jamaica Kincaid) by showing what expectations of what the guys she should talk to and how she should act before her partner and other guys.  Summary: Today we answered four questions revolving around the short story "Girl" (By: Jamaica Kincaid). As well as take senior pictures for 2025-2026. Reflection: Today I learnt that rereading that passage showed more elements of cultural identity from the first time reading it because you notice elements of repetition showing you on how these expectations by her mother affect her. I might use this knowledge in the future when writing my poems or a short story of my own fictional characters.

Reflect on how your cultural heritage shapes your daily expectations, inspired by "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.

Prompt response: Cultural heritage shapes my daily expectations by on how I act outside of my home with others, and what it means to carry myself outside with my lineage being honorable in my birthplace of India. Another way it shapes my daily expectations is by the food I eat in America of fast food and expensive meals using utensils instead of back in India by eating with hands. There also is how we talk to people, where my mom is always on me about my manners to her and others and that I should be respectful and profound in the way I am.  Summary: Today we discussed cultural identity in the passage "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid. As well as discussing what cultural identity is and how different it can be for different people. Reflection: what I learnt during class was Cultural Heritage can determine who you are, the reason why I learnt it now was because of the fact that my mom was always lenient and never influenced our indian culture here in the U.S. since I was 5 other than ...
