“The Island travels with you.” What part of your culture, family, or identity do you feel “travels” with you everywhere you go?

Prompt Response: I feel like the identity of me being Indian "travels" with me everywhere I go because of my skin tone, and sometimes on how I look. Which sometimes I get racial remarks about where I come from when it has nothing to do with me, to which the identity of being Indian can be a good and bad thing since people can often be offensive towards certain races.

Summary: Today in class we continued on cultural identity stereotypes and discussed the poem "The Myth of the Latin Women" made by Judith Ortiz Cofer. After reading the poem we worked on another stereotypes worksheet.

Reflection: Today I learned that Mexican women's life's in terms of stereotypes on how they grow up can have a lot of down sides. This impacted me by debating and looking at those around me and made me wonder "Do they experience this too?", it made my resolve to not be like the weird guys in the poem. In the future I will use this as a reference when interacting with Mexican women and not touching on sensitive topics regarding their culture or cultural identity as Mexican women.
