Why is the choice to serve leftover Chinese food significant in “Lunch”? How could the author have made a more culturally meaningful choice for her grandmother? Use the text to support your answer. Then reflect on a time when you realized you could have done something more meaningful for someone else.

Prompt Response: The choice to serve leftover Chinese food is significant in "Lunch" is because it shows on how much things change from the loss of a family member not only in other aspects but in cultural too with little care to try to cook again because it might bring up some memory's of that dead person. The author could have made a more culturally meaningful choice for her grandmother by trying to make the cultural foods that her grandmother once made to somewhat help her grandmother with the grief and pain she's having. This is supported when she says "It was a boisterous time of day, with everyone talking across rooms, reaching for food, and laughing". A time when I could have done something more and meaningful for another person was appreciating them for who they are more often then making it all about myself.

Summary: Today in class we read over a cultural essay called "Lunch" and answered 10 multiple choice questions on it.

Reflection: Today I learned in class that culture can often be passed down through stories from relatives that make them fun to learn and memorable. This impacted me by making me feel confused over the fact that usually when you're trying to impress or talk with your kids or grand-kids, I would have never guessed you do it through stories that sound cool. In the future I will use this to maybe bring apart my culture and instill it to my kids or grand-kids.

When Celie says, “The God I been praying and writing to is a man. And act just like all the other mens I know,” she expresses disappointment, betrayal, and disillusionment. Recall a specific incident when someone’s words offended you. Describe what was said, how it made you feel, and what actions you took in response. Reflect on whether your response helped resolve the situation or changed how you think about communication.
