After reading the first five letters of The Color Purple, reflect on your thoughts and emotions as you experienced Celie’s early voice and struggles.

Prompt Response: My thoughts and emotions as I experienced Celie's early voice and struggles was at first for the first two chapters felt like a heavy slap to the face and punch to the gut making me feel a bit nauseous over reading it because when I read I tend to imagine the scenario in my head and this felt like it gone beyond what we consider as "normal" today. I guess to me it just felt sickening but I was expecting it kind of like a little when we had an introduction of what the story was going to be like. however through the last 3 chapters it kind of felt like mild as we had to understand the deeper message of what Celie's trying to say through her letters which obviously was much better than the rape imagery. However then again I guess this makes me confront myself over my own actions when you're younger and hormones are acting all over the place making you remember your past I guess in a way that you might not like.
Summary: Today in class we answered 6 questions that required critical thinking of our views on author's and how they write. As well as finishing class off with finishing 5 chapters of "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker.
Reflection: Today I learned that the main character Celie is very complex than I had imagined it to be, with a deep emotional impact on the reader reading it because of it's "raw" take as we explained in class. This impacted me by making me feel "remorseful" and "guilt" over the character despite me not being them, for some reason when a girl is a main character it often shows deeper impact on the reader and I know this from experience as I am currently reading a book called "The First Time She Drowned" representing trauma or fear of drowning kind of but that isn't really all as you have to really stay keen on the details to understand the story better. In the future I will use this to tie back to Celie's character in the beginning and infer how much she has changed throughout the story since she is the "main character" in "The Color Purple".
